Over the past week, a few new developments to Facebook’s Open Graph applications have been emerging. A few entries back in What the Open Graph Could Mean for Facebook Advertising, we talked about the new displays for actions and how they would affect advertising. Well, in the past week, there have been even more updates to open graph applications and how their posts will be shown.
- Adding Multiple Photos – As noted in the Facebook developer post, “photos and places are important for helping users tell rich stories.” So they have now added the ability to attach multiple photos to Open Graph actions, see below for an example from the post.
- Better Location Support – Facebook’s developers have now added an expanded location functionality that helps to associate location data with Open Graph actions and objects. According to the post, “
- New Follow Action – Developers can now allow users to follow other users’ activity within Open Graph applications. As reported here, “content a person publishes within your app will be displayed in the follower’s News Feed even if they aren’t Facebook friends.”
This new progress could be great for ads, because it allows users to tell more of a story when they use an app on the Open Graph – and if this expanded story could be sponsored, that would ultimately lead to more engagement, especially with the access to people who aren’t even Facebook friends with the new follow feature.
